Dr. Shannon Paul Cone is a Licensed Professional Counselor and a Nationally Certified School Psychologist with over 19 years of experience working in the public school setting as a school counselor, behavior specialist, and school psychologist. After graduating with a bachelors degree in Psychology from Francis Marion University in South Carolina, he moved to Atlanta and started his career as a high school counselor in the Fulton County School System. He is currently a full-time school psychologist in the DeKalb County School District providing psychoeducational evaluations and behavior therapy for children, adolescents, and young adults dually diagnosed with intellectual disability and/or autism spectrum disorder and emotional-behavior disorders.
Dr. Cone earned two graduate degrees in School Counseling at Georgia State University and at The University of Georgia. He earned his Ph.D. in School Psychology at Walden University in Minnesota. He completed his pre-doctoral internship in the Atlanta Public Schools and with Atlanta Area Psychological Associates, P.C. He planned and implemented psychoeducational evaluations and offered behavior therapy aimed at changing disruptive behaviors in the classroom. He is well versed in the formal procedures of the pubic school setting. While completing his pre-doctoral internship, he also served as a psychometrist for AAPA.
Dr. Cone’s areas of interest include ADHD, learning disabilities, depression and mood disorders, anxiety, bullying, social skills training, loss and grief, stress management, and life transitions. In addition, he works with individuals who identify or may be struggling identifying as a member of the LGBTQ community.
In the years he has been working as an LPC he has also been trained in various clinical strategies for use with children, adolescents, and young adults with helping them with emotional regulation and coping with difficulties in their lives. He incorporates the use of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Solution Focused Therapy to assist his clients. He sees clients on Saturdays and on Wednesday afternoons in the Marietta office.
